Dear Joe’s Place Community,

Although the trees are barely changing and the near 90-degree days are still fresh in our minds, the season of autumn

is already upon us. We entered 2021 hopeful that summer would bring the end of the pandemic and normalcy in all our lives. While we had a brief period this spring when it seemed that might be true, the Delta variant’s spread made us quickly realize we are still in the throes of a pandemic and that we must accept that our normal routines have changed.

Julia Schaffner, Board President

Joe’s Place held its first virtual fundraising event in May. Not being able to hold our signature Maplewood Shuffle and Party for Joe’s Place events has presented great challenges with fundraising during the pandemic. The Virtual Chocolate, Cheese, and Wine event was an overwhelming success. Participants enjoyed an evening of decadent tastings and wine, and learned more about the Joe’s Place programs. We greatly appreciate all who contributed to making the night a success!

Joe’s Place welcomed one returning resident and one new resident this fall.  Unless necessity arises, the home will remain at half capacity to allow ample space to safely quarantine. This decision will be re-evaluated as spread changes in our community.

Joe’s Place also said goodbye to one set of beloved house parents this summer and welcomed a new, yet familiar, couple the role. We will also say goodbye to our case manager at the end of the month and are actively seeking a replacement. We are grateful not only to the services provided by these Joe’s Place staff members, but also for their commitment to remain an ongoing part of the Joe’s Place family. This sense of belonging and family is just one example of what sets Joe’s Place apart as a special community.

Enjoy the beauty of the autumn season and be well!
